Losing Coolant

  1. #1
    Hi,

I checked my coolant today to find that it was down near minimum. I had a head gasket change about 6 months ago maybe, there's no crap under the oil cap, the coolant is clean, no loss of power and no white smoke from the exhaust.

Is it natural to lose some over time or is there a problem?

    Thanks.

top it up and keep check on it see how much you loose but it is natural to loose some over time

If my coil pack was knackered and was running on only 3 sparkies would that cause leaks in the system as fuel isn't being lit?

it wouldnt cause coolant to be lost; unless its soaked the head gasket and caused it to split (which is unlikely, especially considering as you've had a new one recently)
the coolant circulates in a different circuit to cool the block and wouldnt mix with fuel

it could just be when you filled it with coolant after you did head gasket you didnt run it to circulate it top it up and see if you lose anymore over a few days

Apparently the head never needed skimming but I am worried that may be a lie right now and I'm going to have to pay for it again...

Check your rad hoses for splits,if needed get your cooling system pressure tested.
