Can the heatshield be taken off?

The heatshield that is about centre underneath the car, can it be taken off without having any issues? When my exhaust gets hot or i'm going a certain speed/certain rpm etc it rattles slightly and it is understandably annoying!

Just wondered if its fine to take off?

any heat sheild that is fitted as standard is obvious to me that its not just put there for the way it looks , just make sure theres no pipes near exhaust then take it off if there is for some reason re-route them before taking it off or try and secure it so that it dont rattle .

had mine off for at least 4 years now, though if you got a CAT under the car i'd probs leave it on as that reaches stupidly high temps!!!

Just take it off, as far as i know it's there just to help the CAT get up to temp. Had a few CAT's and they all rattled. I pop the welds off with a screwdriver. Job done.

If it ain't needed then why do manufacturers waste money by fitting them?

1: They deflect heat so that it doesn't rise therfore warming the inside of the car up.
2: Some times there are brake and fuel lines above them so it prevents the pipes from rusting/corroding.

Find where is rattling and tighten up/replace the screw.
