right sorry iv posted this before but not getting answers. so im going to explain a bit better and see if i get more help.

done engine conversion, ran into wire problems (single plug to 3 plug ecu) so changed full loom.
the engine is 2001 and the new loom and ecu is 2002, both 3plug ecu and all sensors and plugs match fine.

we havent yet put the rad on and filled with coolant as we wanted to check if engine works 1st (only for a couple of seconds mind).

when i start the car it struggles slightly, then starts and boom hits full revs very fast, so we cut it of straight away.
cleand icv, no different. i dont think its icv as revs aint slow and there not dropping.

when it revs the butterfly valve in the throttle body doesnt open.

iv searched up and come across it being the throttle position sensor, iv also seen theres way to reset etc.

so what exactly is my problem and what can i do about it?

1, is it because its no coolant in yet?
2, is it the tps if so what can i do
3, is it something else?

iv been doing this conversion for 2 weeks now as im only having access to my car at weekend as its at a mates garage 2 train journeys away. its really stressing me out now and need it sorting asap.

Leak in inlet manifold or icv stuck wide open.

checked for cracks in the inlet all seems fine. i cant remember what the red rubber rings look like though cos i dont think we checked them, are they like a gasket? if so can they be replaced? any other options mate? i want to take all options with me next time i go cos i want to drive it back next time. sick of getting the train home and not getting home until half 12 - 1am lol

Get new o rings and yes they are a gasket and get a new icv or a proven second hand unit. Have you checked the throttle body is clean with a good seal around the butterfly? Sounds like a air leak to me mate.

Not sure if related, but my car used to idle high, and used to drive by itself at one point. Tried all sorts, then all i had to do, was change the O ring in the ICV. Fixed it straight away.

Yeah the tb is clean and all looks to be air tight. The way its revving tho is how it would rev at full throttle. Iv txt my mate to stick the rad on n fill it up etc and then try that turn key 6 times on n off n 3r time start engine for the tps see if that works if not I mite just see if I can get a full inlet manifold n tb with sensors.

can someone tell me has the design of the throttle position sensor changed? the one on my vtr engine is the silver one with pug and citroen badge on it:

iv searched ebay and the nearest i can find is this:

but its for a 1.1.
all the rest are black and the plug is in a different position. theres no new ones like the one i have. any ideas?

oh i forgot to mention another possible cause. this loom has to lambda sensor wires.
i have a raceland 4-2-1 and as this 3 plug loom is new to me im not sure which colour plug i need a lambda on to plug into the 4-2-1. the 4-2-1 has one lambda hole. im imagining it will be the one thats goes into the heat shield at the top of the standard manifold. i have a lambda sensor that will plug into it. but the other i dont have a sensor so its just a plug. do i need a sensor into that to pick up clean air?
could this be another cause to the rev problem?

how about the tps reset?

where you turn ignition on for 10secs, turn off, repeat about 10 times then start the car?
is that a myth or a fact? i'll ask my mate to try it when he has chance

Hi mate had the same problem with mine drove me mad, think yours sounds the same, when you take the throttle body off, the should be a pear shape gasket there, that sits in the grove on the inlet man, ifs it not on , thats def your problem , mine went straight to full revs, got the gasket in a pack of 4 from citroen 9 quid., put some gasket sealer in to test if its not there.Hope you get it sorted.

Right goT to my car yesterday and did a little test.

started the car and put hand over the throttle body when the car over it revved up, it tried sucking my mates hand in and the engine wanted to stall. Which tells me there no air leak!!

So is this the throttle position sensor or the idle control valve? Iv had someone say it means its the icv is sticking open but just wanted to double check

take the icv off and check it turn on your ignition when its out and still attached to plug it should move in and out but be carefull they have been known to pop out of housing .

well we cleaned the icv last week as it was covered in black gunk so im guessing its pretty pooped tbh. a mate has one we are going to try so il update once thats been tried

My mates tried my icv on his gti and it runs perfect. So what does it leave to test now? Just the tps? Or anythin else?

have you had a look at the battery connections? mine was doing the same and turned out to be the negative wasnt quite clamping on right. it was a little loose and mis-shaped.. put a bit of copper wire around it and tightened it up and it solved it so i bought a new -connection and its been spot on since. my mate had same problem and it was the same thing. sounds daft but it may be worth a check

I can see your point but I don think its that. It goes to stall if we cover the inlet and it sucks ur hand. So if the batt was the cause I'm sure it would still rev. Will check I tho mate

Just had the majic phone call and its running and it turned out to be something pathetic..... The accelerator cable had been rooted wrong and was holding the butterfly valve open ever so slightly har har har. Gutted ho cos my mate had to start it up over the phone
