led strip for rear number plate light

  1. #1
I have an aftermarket rear number plate that is drilled into the rear bumper on my other saxo. The holder for the bulbs has rusted to fuck and they no longer work. Currently it is spliced into the rear side light wiring so they come on when the side light comes on.

I was thinking of getting a 5cm led strip from maplins and soldering it onto this wiring. Maplins state the strips need a 12v dc. I know shit about electrics. Will the wiring going to the side light supply power to the strip and work correctly? Or will shit go pop?
