Reverse lights?

  1. #1
I haven't had reverse lights for quite a while now, and i checked the bulbs and they're fine, so guessing it's the switch on top of the gearbox.

Small problem though, i might just be stupid, but it's the white plug ontop of the gearbox isnt it? if it is then i have a problem...

Is that the right plug? i can't get the fucker to fit...
  2. #2
that all looks right to me. in what way does it not fit?
  3. #3
I'm probably being stupid, but I just can't get the plug to sit properly, it seems to shallow to reach the connections inside the plug? Tbf I just finished work and I'm knackered so only tried for a minute, but it wouldn't snap in

    two seconds ill grab you a picture of mine; it seems as thought they made two connections; my 106 xs had the plug pictured but my valver had the correct connection for your gearbox if that makes sense;

cant seem to edit my post but:

^^ thats the plug on your gearbox; here is my loom plug on the 16v loom:

    fits bang on.

On my xs/vtr loom i dont have a pic of the plug as couldnt find it but heres the gearbox plug i had:

^^ thats the one you need for it to fit properly; excuse the dirt my gearbox put a hole in itself -.-

Let me know if you want the one off that box

Tbh I'm not too bothered as its not an MOT requierement, but itd just be nice to have reverse lights aha
  7. #7
who told you it wasnt an mot requirement ? there warning lights and if there on your car they need to work for your mot .

Loads of people on here, the garage I always go to, the garage that passed my fiesta xr2 when it had no reverse lights...
  9. #9
    is it not?
I had a copper check mine the other day! Is it a legal requirement?
  10. #10
Not atm, it might be when the new mot rules etc come into place in may, but me and my family have had countless cars pass mots with no reverse lights...sometimes they check and sometimes they don't? :s
  11. #11
oo :s He was checking mine because he didnt know if i was meant to have one or two haha. Theyve already come in havent they? Thought it was march/april time?
  12. #12
Not sure buddy I was told middle of may
  13. #13
Mines not up until july so dont know!
Thinking about it i think i failed my mot with them out or got an advisory!
  14. #14
guess i was wrong just phoned a work mate there not a requirement for an mot the same if you have no lights fitted to your car it will pass an mot but you will be advised you can only use the vehicle in daylight hours who would of thought that
  15. #15
    thats mental!
I knew you didnt have to have indicators on a single seater/ single passenger vehicle.

Suppose i cant shout at people with no reversing lights if theyre reversing now

The plug you're trying to fit is the wrong one, you're trying to put it onto the right part but the plug itself is not correct. The one you need is grey, it should be near to the one you've been trying to fit, because ive just looked at the loom i've got on the floor and they come from the same part of the loom.

i was under the impression there were two different plugs as i showed in my pics?

Quite possibly, but ive got a vtr loom sat on the floor and its got a plug like the one the OP has shown and also the grey one needed to match that sensor. I would be looking for another plug before i went buying a different sensor personally.

Its a big 3 pin one for the speedo drive. Cant see why the OP cant cut that earlier plug off and put the correct one on?

I've just looked at the loom, you're right 3 pin one for the speedo drive.
