Manifold fitting.. Found amazing tool! Griptite super sockets

    Hi,

This is a bit of a random thread but whilst trying to fit my Janspeed mani on my VTS I got all the bolts off and then had 1 bastard which just wouldn't come loose, started to round it off and it was not happy. Also was the one just above the alternator so couldn't get access to drill it off or anything...

So I did some research and found these online :

    http://www.bt-andf.com/

They were £££!. Well, cost me £50 delivered from the states. Got them today and the bolt came off first time absolutely no worries at all, super easy.

Honestly these tools are worth every penny. No idea if anyone in the UK sells them but for tricky engine work I'll certainly be using them.

Thought I'd post as everyone seems to have problems with the mani bolts and these would certainly easy the stress and I'm sure for a million other jobs too.

These look like a good idea but they look like they're going to break the teeth when a little bit of force is going to be put on it.

I'll stick to what I've got.

^ metrinch sockets are very good at rounded nuts as they apply force to the flat and not the corner of the hex.

I've always used these and they've never failed me yet.... Even used one to remove a security wheel bolt on my old saab

Heres how hard they grip into bolts

both these things look great too. For us uninitiated in the world of mechanics it'd be useful as a sticky for people to post about tools like these... would've made my life so much easier.

A lot of jobs are so straight forward, but only if you have the right tools!

always use a direct drive socket, not a multi hex head socket, nice set of small and long reach sockets. that way you only ever drive off the flats and should never round off a nut, if its too tight, a bit of wd40 or plus gas and wire brush should do the trick, failing that a wee bit of heat ;D
