Hi evary one I've got a Saxo Vtr that needs the inner rubber boots in driveshafts change not cv boo i've got the parts for £18 pound drivers and passangers now the question I'm asking how easy Isit to replace the rubbers wiv new ones due to the fact the ones on car are split how ever if you guys can help me that be great thanks ....
  2. #2
you not making any sense there bud. have you a pic of what you brought as most driveshaft gaiters for the inner come with the metal sleeves but these are the inner cv boots. i did my inner cv boots easily
  3. #3
As said, not making much sense, The inner rubber boots are your cv boots, the only other thing that could be split/leaking around that sort of area is the gearbox seals?

  12. #12
Thats not my shaft but yeah thats got the ABS ring on it. Erm as far as I was aware....no its a bastard unless you got the tools, attempted to do mine at college in the workshop but we didn't have the tools so took it to a driveshaft specialist who did the inner and outer boot for £30

they well easy to do, you need to get a flat head screw driver and prise the metal can from the cv joint which is sealed by a rubber o ring. once you have prised back the metal can it will be easily seen what needs to be done, just push the end out. you will then see what they call 3 roller bearings, at the end of those there is a circlip which you will need to prise apart to get the roller bearings off the shaft, clean everything with a rag. sometimes the roller bearing can be a bit tight on the shaft so lightly tap with a flat screwdriver and hammer on the central ring not the roller bearings themselves, once removed the inner roller bearings you then slide the boot off driveshaft, remember to keep the spring and cup washer, clean up shaft and refit new ones in the oppsite way to above. fit boot cable tie small end to shaft, fit roller bearings back onto shaft replace circlip then fill with grease, it spring and cap back into end of cv joint push new gaiter over cv joint and then when fully installed lightly tap the end of the new metal can over the end of the cv joint to keep it in place hey presto new inner cv boots. but you can get driveshafts complete for like £60 each, new inner cv boots with the can can be purchased from ebay from a company called j&r they sell the outer ones only on ebay but give them a call and ask for the inner ones, there are to sizes but i believe vtr/vts ones are 70mm i did mine and went with 70mm ones and they fitted. so measure your ones first to confirm. think they about £7 each for inner c boots with cans.

steps to make it easier to read,

    1. remove driveshaft from car
    2. clamp driveshaft into a vice if one available
    3. prise inner metal can from cv joint using a flat screwdriver and small hammer (end of drivehaft)
    4. pull inner joint out of can (will be messy as full of cv grease)
    5. clean every part of driveshaft joint
    6. save spring and cap from driveshaft joint
    7. you can know either cut rubber boot off driveshaft and prise over roller bearing (easier)
    8. remove drivehaft from vice and turn up the other way so can is facing upwards reclamp in vice
    9. or you can clean out metal can and remove circlip on end of driveshaft
    10. remove roller bearing from end of driveshaft (if need be lightly tap central ring of roller bearing with flat screwdriver and small hammer) clean everything with rags
    11. remove cv bnoot with can if not already done.
    12. clean driveshaft completely
    13. replace driveshaft boot kit and cable tie small end to driveshaft
    14. place roller bearing back onto driveshaft
    15. refit circlip on to driveshaft
    16. fill can with cv grease (saving some for the cv joint
    17. replace spring and cap into inner boot can
    18. push cv joint into end of can
    19. when cv joint pushed all way into can lightly tap edges of can round end of cv joint.
    20. hey presto finished driveshaft with new inner cv boot kit installed.

    21. really and truelly you should replace the o ring seal on the cv joint but i couldnt find a supplier even tried the citroen dealer and they said they can only supply a driveshaft at like £200 which is ridiculous

    hope this helps
