Important! : bottom radiator hose vtr

  1. #1
can someone tell me if the vtr's bottom rad hose changed at all since the phase 1 and phase 2?
its just iv got hold of 2 rad hoses that i where told off a vtr but dont seem to fit mine. only thing i can think is if they changed slightly or if the ones iv been getting are 1.4 ones (if there any different)

yes we are putting it in the right place. but it seem where the hose goes onto my engine block the bit on the engine block it sleeves over points up. we tried fitting the ones iv got hold of but they dont seem to get all way round to the rad without hitting the cam belt at the bottom. its just seems the hoses im using are too small. but its because the back of the block the hose bit points up.

is there any difference or are the ones im getting off a 1.4?

if i suss this i can go pick my car up tonight (if i can get hold of a hose)

No difference as far as I'm aware. Cant you make a "joiner" up out of some plastic/metal pipe for the time being and some jubilees, just to bridge the gap?

There are 2 different hoses on the full saxo range. The long one is normally on the older lower models such as the 1.1 1.4 1.6 8v. The shorter hose is on some newer 1.4's and 1.6 8v and the 1.6 16v. by the sounds of it you need the older spec long hose from a 1.6 8v or a 1.1.

Could always get a second hand vts rad and that will sort your problem because the rads are longer.

maybe they are the shorter 16v rad hoses...just a thought?

apparently some vtr's came with the bigger radiator

Some of the newer 1.4's had a longer rad I just checked the part numbers so that would explain why your hose is short.

Get yourself a 1.1 lower hose mate. Same bore so will be fine and there longer too.

its not the rad side thats the problem. its the block side. where the hose connects to the block that bit the hose goes over points up. on my old 1.4 block that bit was straight. i thought they where the same. my mate tried fitting that hose so i'll have a look at it and see what its playing at.
its confused me. no doubt like the rest of this conversion its just being something stupid we have missed

Managed to get another look at it lastnight and I think I know the problem, its not the hose. But the plastic base on the engine black the hose goes on seems to be wrong. Its set up so the heater matrix pipe goes on the straight bit in the middle and the bottom radiator hose points up and right. I went to the scrap yard yesterday and it seems the rad hose should be where my matrix one is. Whilst the matrix one goes to the left but all them bases had been broke will have to search for one. I managed to fit the hose however a different rout but without any kinks or forced bends in the hose.
