newman ph3 cams in vts

#2Yes no reason why not as long as you have fitted them correctly. Been running with 708's in my car for a few months now without a remap.
-
#3does it idle ok?? and what kind of gains did you notice?? not figures but acually at the wheel driving?
-
#4Yeah the idle is lumpy as hell but its only cut out on me once or twice, which ive noticed has been after ive had the battery disconnected, so i'd imagine its the sensors "learning" again. It definitely goes better, seems to have made the most difference in the mid range if i'm honest, rev limit needs raising and they need to be dialled in properly to be seeing the full potential though. Not doing that until i decide which route i'm going with the car though

#5would you reccomend to get them in i mean is it worth the cash they cost you? if you havnt done already mate try a short gearbox, i got the xsi which isnt the best and its completly changed the whole feel of the car, i love it by far the best mod iv done and it only cost me 80 quid and a days hard graft
-
#6It depends how long you want to keep the car for mate, i personally think it was worth it but there will be people who don't. By the time you've allowed money for a re-map/stand alone management and time on the rollers its not all that cheap to chuck a set of cams in a car. I personally like my vts box, i've got an lsd in it which has probably been the best mod i've done. And should help if i decide to go ahead with future plans. But i do hear what you're saying with the xsi box, was considering a shorter box a while back.

#7im no mechanic limted slip diff what does it acually do?
-
#8Its hard to explain as the Quaife diff i've got isnt like a convential plate lsd. Have a read of this http://www.quaife.co.uk/shop/products/qdf9h-0
Its strange to drive with at first but once you've got used to it the difference is amazing imo. Not a cheap mod though at all, i bought the whole gearbox second hand from someone i know. -
#9just had a read and basically it keeps the car on all fours and sends the power where its needed?
-
#10Kind of, obviously your suspension/tyres set up does most of the keeping the car on all fours, but the diff is constantly sending power to the wheel which needs the grip, unlike on an open diff. It's hard to explain lol.
-
#11to be honest even with cams in im only looking at 140 bhp ish but then again the xsi box renders 1st gear useless when you pin the trotle, its just spins. i dont thing im ever goin to have enough power to need one to be honest. what kind of power has yours got atm and what major mods have you done performance wise?
-
#12Yeah that is the thing, i only bought it since it was local and it should help with the future plans. At the moment the car is nothing special mate, have a look through my progress thread if you want to see.
-
#13you mention itb's in progress thread, iv thought about this alot to be honest but cant justify it due to cost for gains. sound awesome though aparently. very tidy car though mate looks smart and tastefuly done
-
#14Cheers mate, yeah it is pretty costly but if i do it i'll be doing a lot of the work myself, nothings set in stone though. You planning to just stick with cams?
-
#15im not sure to be honest, i want it cammed and remaped i think for a start then depending on what the performance gains are like i might look into other things. mainly just want a bit more poke as i find it quite slow at times, kinda miss the v6 vectra with all the low down power but then again the vts is awesome on fuel when you play nice
-
#16Yeah fair enough mate, cammed and remapped will make a fair bit of difference if you get it mapped and timed up well. Mate of mine has had a vectra gsi for years now, he's just put the 3 litre mv6 engine in it.1 user thanked this post:
