changing ecu

goin to try and get an ecu from scrappies tmoz as i think my ecu is on way out, does it have to be unlocked or can i just get one from same model of car same engine etc

theres no immobiliser on my car, so guessing it would just be a straight swap?

It will have to be unlocked mate if it hasn't been done so previously, there's a bloke on here under the username "cam" who I believe can unlock ecu's on here

even if its same engine size etc?? theres no immobiliser so why does it need to be unlocked?

Ah didn't read that part of the question lol, I might be wrong but I think that if the immobiliser has locked the ecu on the scrapped car it will need unlocking, But if you install it unlocked then it can't lock itself without an immobiliser. As I said above I might be wrong so someone please correct me if I am

well soon find out lol, gonna try and get one off a car that doesnt have an immobiliser

doesnt matter if you dont have immobiliser mate. the donor cars ecu still has to be unlocked ask the scrappers if they have a key for that car (if it has a running engine) and start it up and take the immobiliser out of that one, this will unlock that ecu and then it will work fine. if you cant get the key however as mentioned above get onto username "cam" he does it for £40. send him the ecu he will unlock it and he will send it back.
it doesnt matter if the ecu is from same engine type as yours, if that ecu hasnt been unlocked it wont work with your car. even with no immobiliser you still have a transponder in the ignition barrel that wont recognise the donors cars ecu.
your only other option is get the ecu, immobiliser and igntion barrel out of the same car and that will work fine
