Odd cooling issue

   I used search but couldn't find anything quite like this.
   
   My engine temp light is coming on and off.
   It's usually off when I start the car, then it'll come on after a bit, then it'll go off again.
   Sometimes the fan will be going when the engine is switched off, sometimes it won't.
   
   Doesn't seem to matter how I'm driving, doing 30mph all the way to work or being a bit heavy footed down a country road, it just comes on and off when it fancies.
   
   Don't think I'm loosing coolant.... if I top my screenwash up then that leaks out a bit (not had a chance to investigate further) but can't see how that's related.

   Try a new thermostat..
   
   Your screen wash has nothing to do with the cooling of your engine. Well if your windscreen is warm off a sunny day it will cool it.

   That's what I mean, I can't think of anything that happened that would have damaged the cooling along with making my screenwash leak

   Sure it's not leaking fluid now, topped it up before a little trip this morning (only couple of miles) and not a drop used so I'll try the thermostat thing
