Dodgy steering..

   I have a problem with my vtr where the steering will sometimes feel a bit loose like it will wander for a second or 2 then go back where its supposed to be.. I'm a bit stumped at what it is because most of the suspension parts are new apart from a couple of bits. wondering if it could be my steering rack now but how do i check for play in the steering rack? Anyway heres a list of parts that are pretty new and i'm sure it can't be:
   
   Wishbones new
   Trackrod ends new
   Apex 50mm lowering kit all around pretty new
   droplinks & bushes new
   Tracking has been done twice now and said to be ok
   Wheel bearings are fine
   
   So yeah any ideas? oh by the way it sometimes makes a clunking noise when turning aswell don't know what thats coming from or if its related

   Have you checked the power steering pump?

   any play in the rear trailing arms?

   I honestly have no idea, but half of the time when steering problems come up on here it's the power steering pump.
