Central locking, Alarm & immobiliser

Hi can anyone tell me if the central locking, alarm & immobiliser are linked in the mk1 vts the single plug one with the infrared key fob? If I disconnect the loom with the alarm and central locking ecus on it will the immobiliser still be happy and start the car or is there more to this anti start thing than just the chip in the key?
