Central Locking Problem

    Hi All,

Have a 2003 Saxo VTR with a central locking problem I've been trying to fix off and on for a couple of weeks.

Symptom - when locking, either with the key, push down drivers door lever or remote, the car immediately unlocks.

Disconnect plug from the central locking unit behind glovebox and nothing then works - as expected.

Have electrically disconnected all three door solenoids in turn to try and isolate one of them. Problem still there. Even fitted new solenoid to drivers door as initially thought that was the prob. At that time fault was intermittenent - now it's permanent.

Have checked wiring diagram with my Haynes manual and to me the only thing left which can be the fault is the central locking control unit itself.

Is my reasoning/fault finding correct do you think?

The reason I ask is that Citroen want £128 for a new control unit - so I guess it's a trip to the scrappies.

Has anybody had this fault before and it proved to be something different? If not, is there a good supplier for Citroen parts that I can get a cheaper control unit.

    Thanks for the help.

I created this problem when de pinning my mark two.

On removing both door pins ( obv 1 from each side ) If i have one of my doors open, and press my fob to lock, it locks, then immediately unlocks.

I know its not a solution for you but i know exactly what you mean. I thought id fucked my CL up when it did it, but then when i had both doors shut, pressed fob and it remained locked.

check the pins from the A post to the door, see if any of the pins are broken or corroded an check the wires for breaks,

    hope this helps

    Cheers guys,

Now I'll have a go at electrics, but ain't got a clue when it comes to mechanics!

So what are these pins and what is "depinning" and how do they effect central locking?

Also to mention after a couple of occasions during bad weather over winter the interior light had water in it. The old Saxo prob with sunroof. I did read that the remote control receiver is up there in the roof lining as well. I've checked and not only is it all dry, but there is no receiver up there - and I can't find it anywhere. Also, according to the Haynes diagrams, 2 wires should come from the central locking unit to the remote receiver - those 2 wires aren't there on the car.

I've read somewhere that the central locking unit behind the glovebox can be tested. Anyone know how?

    Cheers!

Can anyone help with the pin questions above?

How can they effect the central locking?

    Cheers

If its got rcl with the rf keyfob then the recievers under the dash somewhere. Its the older infrared ones that are in the roof.

You didnt get anything stuck between the mechanisms? I did this depinning mine, got the metal pin for the lock barrel stuck behind the latch!

    Thankfully it's now fixed.

I'll post this in case it helps anyone else.

The problem was caused by water getting in to the plug/socket drivers door wiring harness.
Unscrewed the locking collar and pulled plug out - and out came the water too. Dried off with hairdryer, cleaned contacts inside with fine wire brush and finally a good squirt of WD40.

    Thanks to all that helped
