Locking wheel nuts?

  1. #1
I'm sure this thread has been milked to death but I can never find any solid answers. I have a Saxo VTS and obviously I've lost the locking wheel nut key. I've tried the hammering on a smaller socket and even migged a nut onto it but the weld breaks before it turns. I've exhausted myself with ideas and a firm has said to me they can get them out for £70 a corner!!! Has anyone got any suggestions otherwise I'm gonna attempt to drill them out...

    Thanks

Just cut a groove in them for a sharp chizel to fit in

Or u could drill a deepish hole into locking wheel nut , get a tap n dye set put threads in hole uve drilled and put a left hand thread bolt into it until its tight then it should turn the hole locking nut that's what I'd do

An easy-out set is what you need, not sure how easy they ate to drill tho?

How do I split the bolt with a chisel? I tried drilling today and its hardly even marked it...

Did you use a HSS bit or a wood bit...

    I'm being serious.

The weld has broken before the bolt loosened sounds like you need to find a decent welder. A nut welded to it with a 15mm hole in the middle welded properly can take 1 metric tonne of torque you are doing something wrong if your welds are braking.

It was a friends mig that only does 120a. I have an arc at work which might get the locking bolt its self to actually fuse as the mig seemed to only fuse the M14 nut I put on. Maybe the arc might work better?

I tried all sorts with mine... In the end, gave up, and went to the local Formula One Autocentre. Friendly chappie banged on some tool that looked like a screw-on socket and had the lot off in 5 minutes for a tenner.

    Saved a lot of hassle.

I used persistence and the technique of smashing a socket on it, took about 30 mins to do all four, and a lot of brute force and ignorance!

I went to Peugeot when I lost mine, and asked if they had a master set like BMW etc do, they said no but if I give them the number off they wheel nut key they could get me another one hahaha. I wouldn't of been there if I had the key!!
