Important! : Brakes?

I've been quoted £135 by a local garage to replace my front discs and pads on my Saxo, is this a good price?

Also, what is the benefits of drilled and grooved discs? I was considering buying some drilled and grooved discs for £30, some pads for £20 and getting my mate to do it for me as it's cheaper.

    Just need opinions!

Not at all. Its LOL worthy.

You could do it yourself easily.

Do it yourself. I not at all mechanically minded. I don't my front pads and disks without too much stressing. Hardest part was taking out the 2 19mm caliper bolts. Piece of piss.

hahaha i just paid £160 for brembo discs and mintex pads all round do it yourself its easy and alot cheaper

dont bother with drilled and grooved discs, for £30 they will be made out of some pig metal, also the grooves eat away at your pads adn the the drilled holes can cause cracks, i persoanlly think all drilled grooved discs look cheap and tacky, unless im at a race track lol

i reccomend the maxtorq grp N discs off kamracing, cheap and they gave my brakes more of a bite

Not to keen on drilled discs either, even if the crack/split chances are very slim, it's not worth the risk. Go for vented and dimpled if you want the drilled 'look' but if not then solid and vented discs will be fine.

I'm a Mintex/Ferodo man and you could probably get front discs/pads for around £50 brand new.

For £135 you could have done a brake conversion and had money left over. But some garages do charge between £40-£60 per hour for labour these days.

I went on ebay, bought some Mtec drilled and grooved discs and Mintex pads for 100 quid.

Think they are mint, stop really nicely. No cracks or anything yet - Apparently it's only likely to happen with overuse, such as a track day where the discs change temperature rapidly and constantly.
    Road use, you'll be fine.

Just a heads up but there are fake branded discs/pads on ebay.(along with lots of other things).

yeah, there are such items but mine were genuine. Discs are made to order and come from Ireland iirc. No problems yet anyway.

i would like to point out cracking your discs is very rare but its known to happen to crack between the drilled holes, im just a fan of fitting 266/283mm brakes with oem spec discs and pads, if bled up properly then they will give more than enough stopping power

Jumping on your thread but what conversions are a good bet at 165? Ideal brake settle anyone, calipers, discs and pads anyone and what prices you pay for it?
