changed the cam belt a little while ago and ever since on tick over it makes a whiring noise and when you just touch the throttle it changes pitch.....now i have checked the tenion on the belt and thats fine, i have also checked it is on the right way round.

anyone had this problem ? it is not causing harm but it is so damn anoying

Has it always whirred after you changed it? The only thing I can think is it's too tight... Are you 100% it's not too tight?

Did you change the tensioner as well when you did the belt?
  7. #7
If its whining/whirring id be a little concerned. Mine doesnt whine..

it is not too tight definatly and dont wanna loosen anymore. however i didnt change the tensioner no and i have been wondering if when i re tensioned it disturbed its old position and the bearings are making the noise.

oh YEAH just remembered it doesnt do it all the time only once the engine warms up a bit ?????

    Doesnt sound safe at all.

i dunno but its really anoying and to be honest its more like a whirring ... surely someone else has had this problem it cant just be me lol....

i think that its got to be the tensioniser and when the engine heats up the bearings expand causing this noise. but i just wanted to see what other peoples veiws were.

I had mine changed recently, and it done exactly this. Took it back to my friend who fitted it, and got him to slacken it off again. He said he was surprised how loose he had to make it compared to most other cars to stop it whining.

It happens when it gets warmer as the belt expands ever so slightly and pushes on the tensioner more (as tensioner is on the outside).

    I'm 99% sure it's this.

Can you twist the belt 90 degrees up the non tensioner side?
  14. #14
Sounds like your timing belt is far to tight buddy.........

mine did the same when i renewed it never caused me any probs and i dont notice it anymore
