WTF is this thing?

Because I like to pull on things, fnar, while I was removing the rear beam I pulled on this and it sort of snapped off, wtf is it?

and by snapped off I mean it's no longer fixed to where it was fixed to, not that I've snapped it off the pipes.

    Cheers

it's a ball bearing designed to allow air into the tank (as fuel is used) so it doesn't cause a vacuum lock. Ball bearing is in there to stop it allowing fuel OUT if the car rolls over.

Cable tie it back properly (IE, FLAT on the part of the tank it's supposed to sit in/on) otherwise you may run into problems with fuel starvation / vacuum in the tank. I've had this problem in the past and had to replace with a brand new one.
