Slid into a curb :(

  1. #1
It was horribly wet last night and as I turned a sharp corner in town the back tried to overtake the front and it was about to spin until I hit a curb with the drivers side rear wheel, it onlyy hit at 5 or 10 mph but it made a hell of a bang, anyway the tracting or what I thought was the tracking was out anyway and when I drove forward the wheel had to sit just right of centre, it was doing the same after I hit the curb so I decided to get the tracting done, this has made the wheel feel like it sits more to the right now, had the rear checked at the same time, no camber wheel still sits straight spins straight and there is no noticable damage to anything round of on the axle,, why is my wheel still off too one side as I drive? Cheers

    rear wheels dont effect tracking...

unless your rear is then seriously bent, then the car would crab and the wheel would feel ok. but thats a different issue again.

Car doesn't feel like its crabbing, reckon my wheel isn't on right?

definately didn't do anything to the front axle?
on rear axle is theres a lot of camber it might make a slight difference but would need to be somewhat bent to make a huge difference to steering.

Front axle? My front wheels didn't come anywhere near hitting anything, they slid sideways? Haha, and nah the rear wheels both seem to sit fine, no camber

Had the tracking done again today same problem, if I put the wheel straight it pulls too the left and the faster I go the more it goes left so I have to have the wheel slightly to the right, pissing me off now, haha any ideas?

something to do with ur rear axle / trailing arm had the same prob with the steering wheel having to tilt it. mine did it cuz the bearings were fucked....

    Check tyre pressures

All it takes is a few mil out of alignment and the whole geometry will be out.

    As in when your rear wheels are bent like this;

    |----\ <--- the arse of your car is dragged left, so you need to steer left to counter-act it and go in a straight line.

    |----/ <--- the arse of your car is dragged right, so you need to steer right to counter-act it and go in a straight line.

When you stop accelerating there is less dragging, so you dont have to counter-steer as much (if that makes sense).

Get it on a 4 wheel laser alignment bay (ATS round here) and they will show you how bad it is (or isnt).

A jig might be a "cheap" fix. Its abit of a pain, but in the long run, a refurbed axle would be your best solution.

Just wasted your money with the tracking, you'll need to do it again once you've found the problem.

My guess is you've bent the stub axle on the beam.

Measure the wheel base on both sides?
Put a straight bit of metal on both wheels and look at the distance away from the body work and wheel?
Jack up and spin the wheel may be slightly buckled?
