Problem taxing my new Saxo

  1. #1
I can't tax it without my cover note from my insurer, I have insurance and mot certificate but no cover note to do it at the post office and it is good friday tomorrow, also can't tax it online because the insurance is in my name and the previous owner doesn't have insurance for it now. What do they expect me to do?

    Any ideas?

Get cover note emailed, that's what I did then printed it

Takes the biscuit, just phoned the DVLA and he basicly said it's your problem. I think the post office should be able to confirm policy numbers with the insurer in situations like this

They wouldn't email it, only fax it for some reason but I don't know anybody with a fax machine

dont understand why you cant tax it online? you have insurance. but the previous owner doesnt? do you have the log book? is the car registered under your name yet?
if so then you can tax online.
if not and you dont have the counter part slip off the previous owners log book for when you buy a car then you will just have to wait until the log book is in your name.

Car isn't in my name yet, I bought it on Tuesday but the dvla can take upto 4 weeks to transfer the car into my name apparently. I have the green slip and mot certificate but no cover note from my insurer.

I can't do it online because the car is in his name and he cant because he has cancelled his insurance.

I can't do it at the post office because I need the cover note and he can't do it at the post office because he is in work until 6pm and also has cancelled the insurance.

I think you will have to wait until next week then.

Without the full V5 or the taxing reminder, you need your insurance certificate iirc.

you need cover note any way

taxing reminder just makes it so you dont need v5

Go to your local DVLA office. They give you a number to fax your insurance too, and you can tax the car while you are in there.

Nah, you'd think so but I can't. Can't use my insurance policy number with the car still in his name.

Not sure where our local DVLA office is but it is probally somewhere like Manchester, we live in Barrow in Furness at the end of a 40 mile cul-de-sac so just to get on the motorway is over 50 mile and Manchester is over 100 mile away.

Plus I've already ordered the insurance because I had no other options. It's silly really, who is going to tax somebody elses car. Me and the seller should be able to tax the car at a post office between us, ie his log book, my insurance etc. Afterall it is the car you are taxing, not a person.
