Is my driveshaft gone?

  1. #1
Basically when i turn left i get a knock knock knock sound coming from the wheel (or so i think it is the wheel) i have tried dipping the clutch when the noise happens and the knock goes away so i suspect its the drive shaft.

I have also jacked the car up to check for play in the wheel. when the wheel is moved vertically there is no play but from side to side i can move the wheel slightly left and it looks like the whole thing moves like there the spring is (strut?)

when driving sometimes it feels like the steering goes light or ir pulls to the left
and the left wheel tread is worn down on the outer edge but the rest has tread :/

i have checked that all the wheel bolts are done up tight and did take it to a garage they put it in the air and said it looks fine underneath

    any help appreciated.
    thanks

It is probably the driveshaft, but could also be a wheel bearing

wheel bearing doesn't knock, it hummmmmmmssss

sounds like driveshaft, mne is doing exact same thing.

yeah i thought so wheel bearing would always make a noise when the wheels are spinning.

how long were you driving like that for?

mines been doing it for nearly a week and got to stay like it till thursday when it goes into the garage for some other little repairs

Too long really, i knew it needed sorting. Juddering while accelerating badly.

It was a step hill with a car full which was the final straw

Straight lines and slooooow acceleration and you might be ok..

hah sounds a nightmare i've had it for about 2 weeks now but i've hardly driven in that time since i dont wanna risk it. I think am going to leave it for now till monday if it costs too much to fix i dont think am even going to bother since i wanted to sell the car anyway.
al just sell it for spares or smth

    good luck mate!

kinda getting sick of all the little problems u get on saxos but strangely mines has never actually broken down to the point where i had to call the aa
its been weirdly reliable and i have had it over 4 years now :o

Mine rattles like mad when left lock in second gear only. Some times in third, think its because of all the wheel spins iv done with lock on and general 17 year old driving. Never the less it been doing it for about 4 months now. Not a problem just sounds horrible.

oh wheel spinning will definately foobar the driveshafts
considering yours does it in certain gears its probably fucked the box too

Yeah, only got 50k on it is a t reg 1.5d that my mum gave me.

Nah dads a mechanic and it just worn bearing in the cv join only does it in second gear as i never go round corners fast in first and second gear gives the appropriate torque to rattle the drive shaft.
