Head Unit question

  1. #1
In my previous two cars the cd player/radio has always worked when the key isn't turned at all (if I turn it on manually) or when there is no key in and when I turned the key to one click the cd player came on automaticly if it was left on the last time I used the car. In my Saxo though the cd player won't work at all when I havn't turned the key to one click (even if I try to turn it on manually) and it doesn't come on automaticly when I turn to one click.

Also if forgets all my settings if I turn back to no clicks (even preset radio stations) and then back to one click or start the engine. Just wondering if this is the way it has been wired up or is it always like this on a Saxo, the head unit is a Apline CDA-9885r.

I've found a manual for the headunit online but can't find anything in there about it.

It's just annoying having to turn on the headunit and then find the radio station everytime I use the car, I'm used to it just coming on where I left off last time I used the car

Also, if I use my reset button on the headunit am I likely to need a code when it comes back on because I havn't got the code but would like to reset it

there is a guide on here about that something about putting the perm live to the main feed or something.

the perm live is for the memory but the main feed will only power on these cars when at the first click. it's to stop you from leaving the radio on when your not at the car.

There is a permanent live and switched ignition live going to the stereo.

The permanent live should always go to the memory live input on your stereo.

The switched live should go to the normal live input on your stereo.

If you want it always on, so you can listen without the keys, then you'll want to wire both memory and normal live from the stereo (usually red and yellow on ISO harnesses) to the permanent live saxo wire

Ah just re-read that and that's for an aftermarket headunit. It could be either colour? How do I find out which wire is the permanent live on the car?

Get 1 of of thos screwdrivers with a light in & with the ignition off insert the probe into the wiring harness(from the car)the other end of the screwdriver with the crocodile clip put that on your seat frame.Once you find the live the light will come on.

Cheers guys, sorted it by swapping the red and yellow wires but realised while I was out at the car that the rear drivers side speaker isn't working at all, played with fade and balance to rear right hand side and sound went mute, also looks like somebody has tried to pull the cover off at some point and the top clip has broken on the speaker cover

Is it likely to be a loose wire of are they prone to breaking?
