Removing Starter Motor?

  1. #1
When my car is warm the motor will slip off the flywheel and just spin, so im gonna get another one to see if it helps.

How do i go about getting it off, is it on the gearbox? Also do i do it from the top of the car or underneath it? and iv only got basic tools. Cheers

You can do it from above, will more than likely need to remove air filter etc to make a bit of room. Its bolted to the gearbox, look down from above, its kind of roughly below where the inlet is. Pretty fiddly but you just need to disconnect the battery, remove the wires attached to it. One nut is 8mm and ones 13mm iirc. and then 3 13mm bolts that hold the starter motor on.

Wouldn't like to to it from above.

At least under it you can see the bolts - just have to hug the engine tho.

Yeah it is a ballache tbh. Thats what happens when a mate asks if you can change it for him practically at the side of the road lol. Not the worst thing i've had to do on a car mind! But yeah is nice and easy from underneath.

It bolts on to the top rear left of the gearbox if your under the bonnet.

That's nothing, my starter motor sticks 90% of the time!

When it's in a good mood it'll start straight away.. if it's in a bad mood.. it can take 5-10 trys..

Then if it doesn't start without abit of throttle.. my idles fucked. So have to switch it off - reset icv by turning ignition on/off 7 times..

    Then Start all over again..

I will change it one day though

sure thats the problem? Long shot but is it propper nasty and a bit shakey when warm and you turn it over?

Only saying as we had a lexus in at work today for a similar problem and turned out it had no oil in it hence why it did it whilst warm..

and removing the starte is easy in a saxo. youl see!

is that what it is then? the motor sticking, its like it catches the flywheel but spins off it immediatley, so it will start to turn over then you just here a whirring noise. or it sounds like a whirring noise

could be mate, when its cold it will still sometime make a whirring noise, like its not connecting to the flywheel, but when it does, it turns over without a problem, wheras when it hot, it just feels like it slips off the flywheel and spins

Well mine starts to turn then stops. So a tick, try again tick. Until it free's turn's and starts - so sounds like a diff problem. But same part lol.

it;s just under the inlet manifold.

piece of piss compared to some wether you get it from top or underneeth.

i do all saxo/106/206 from above. save putting it on a ramp lol.
