Saxo now starts... doesnt stop... strange problem!

Good news! finally got my saxo started and revving like fuck, great success

turned her off and pulled out the key, and the car still running a treat lol.

turned her off by pulling out the main 80amp fuse (fuel pump i think)

Then pulled off the alarm box, immobiliser controll box, and transponder ring, and she still starts and doesnt stop the same way; So somehow ive accidentally bypassed all of the security systems on it.. lol

The dash lights are on all the time, as soon as you connect the battery and before you put the key in. This is making me think an ignition live and a straight live are crossed somewhere, but i havent spliced any wiring, and the loom is just plugged in where it should be, the plugs all only go in one way etc...

Anyone any ideas? im propperly stumped

    Oh the details..

its a 1.6 vtr mk1 loom and engine etc 1999, in a base model shell but with the full interior loom etc swapped

so basically its starting soon as battery's connected?

You need to start it with the key in the barrell but you can remove that after and she still goes. Though ignition/petrol low light etc are on as soon as battery is connected

Have you done any wiring? Sounds to me like the ignition live is now permanent..? Or if not a relay has probably arched together.

Could be the ignition switch, if saxo's have one then it will be located behind the ignition barrel, happened in my polo gt once.

If not try get hold of the wiring diagram and multi meter and chase the ignition live till you find your problem?

Havent rewired anything mate, just lifted the entire loom over from one car to another, interior and all

Yeah that was my thoughts on the ignition live, kinda scary that you can accidentally bypass everything lol

What relays would be worth checking?

Will try swapping the ignition switch over as ive a car for breaking here which makes things handy. Whats puzzling me is that it was all working fine in the donor car, but i had bother getting this started so its been sitting a good few months now

    Anyone else any thoughts cheers

I'd do what Kirk says. Meter out the barrel switch and check your getting on/off voltage when you turn the key, otherwise I can't see how it could be anything else. Also check you don't have 2 permanent lives to the starter. I'm sure it isn't your problem but its another box ticked in the saxo mystery.

Which 2 wires should i be checking it on mate coming from the barrell?

Under normal circomestances i wouldnt mind but looking to MOT it soon and have it out for the summer so want everything 100%

Cut them and switch them. If there on terminals that's even better. Might just need switching round if that can be done... Never had to do it on a saxo.

tried changing the large relay under ecu over earlier on with no joy
Also removed the ignition switch but turns out the one from my other saxo is different so thats on hold for now

took ignition switch/lock home with me to test it out, tried it with the multimeter, one plug operates at the final click of the lock, the other when you turn past this (to start)

Seems grand to me, i dont see how it would cause my problem so as i suspected before, there must be a live somewhere that should instead be fed off my ignition live

U checked exciter and permanent live on the starter?

As far as I know that would just make the starter motor run constantly.

I can't see what else it can be then. Surely the ignition switch would kill the power to all the electrics. I find it hard to believe that all the auxiliaries responsible for running the engine are permanently live unless there's a main relay or switch that's stuck somewhere.

ive a car for breaking so will swap over all the relays and see what happenss

See thats my thinking, and i havent cut/spliced any wires etc its an entire loom just plugged together

i had a simular problem with my old zafira, if i had my foot on brakes the headlight would come on and it would still run when i took key out, turned out to be a headlight relay
it might help you might not

Did you manage to get to the bottom of it?
