new exhaust questions

  1. #1
ok so im going to replace my exhaust, just a standard one but was only 40 quid delivered brand new front to back, so...

    1. is it easy to do on my own? anything i should watch out for ?

    2. my old one had few holes in it and car still kinda runs like crap so will fitting a new exhaust make it run better? any slight performance gains? fuel economy or anything like that??

i know a fair bit about cars but dont know much about exhausts etc

They are fairly easy to do shouldn't need anyone to help you and secondly if its blowing a lot then it can make it run shit but at the same time shouldn't if that make sense maybe just giving it a major service, ie plugs, fuel filter and all other filters and oils will always help MPG and the performance of the car

ye thing is its had everything apart from an oil change, still runs kinda shitty, its weird though because sometimes if i lift the accelerator pedal up it sorta idles better , not perfect but better,

    changed

    icv
    throttle body
    plugs
    leads
    coil pack
    fuel and air filter
    lambda

stumped as to what else it could be

is piss easy to do, i done a full one and im no mechanic, although my manifold has gotten a crack in it because everything is new apart from that. but my car is presumably the worst car ever, so i wouldn't worry

its a 1.1i mk1 ive been doing some reading about exhausts and cat converters

it seems a blocked cat and holes in the exhaust can cause poor running, now the exhaust on it im guessing prob been on it from new, so itll have covered the 90,000 miles its done, also theres a smalle leak right on the manifold where it joins to downpipe right before lambda so again this wont be helping, will get it fitted saturday and see what happens, hopefully sorts it, got wishbones to do aswell the joys of a saxo lol

You got it in one mate! If it been on there from new I wouldn't mind betting the cat is blocked with carbon and other engine shit! Put it on and see how it goes
And I hant long done my wishbones, drop links, strut mounts, Shocks, replaced all brakes all round! Good ol Saxo's
