Laser spring compressors

    Just bought a set of Laser spring compressors from Halfrauds and, though it didn't say anything on the outside of the box, in the instructions it says they are not recommended for dual rate or progressive springs but doesn't say why not.
    Has anyone had any experience of them and what do you think? I'm going past tomorrow so can take them back but if not them, what would you recommend?

    Black bolt with silver hooks that arent very "hooky"? iv got a set and they are s**t, came off when compressing a spring and hit my hand...

    Dual rate valve springs are only made up of two springs (normally a smaller spring situated inside of the main valve spring) and progressive valve springs are just coiled slightly tighter at one end than the other, cant see why you would need any special spring compressor, as they all do the same job tbh

    +1 to this, i got hit in the jaw by one when it decided to go twang, lost a collet aswell

    No, not the silver hook type. These are all black and have fairly wide double hooks.
    They look and feel decent quality and. like you Snake, I can't see why you'd need a different type of puller for progressive springs!
    The hooks aren't big and bulky so should fit between closer spaced coils OK. If they looked cheap tat I'd take them back but they look OK so I'll chance it.
    They're probably just covering their legal arses.

    He's on about suspension coil compressors. Not valve spring removal.

    Yes, for suspension not valve springs. Too tired to spot that last night!

    I tried the jaw on the standard coils of my VTR today and they are a nice snug secure fit so will chance it.

    As long as they're used correctly, they'll be fine mate. Just make sure they're each tightened bit by bit, and take your time. Majority of accidents caused by spring compressors are from incorrect use.

    Yeah, In the instructions they say 10mm at a time for each side but I was thinking even that sounded a lot. I'll take it steady.

    Like the idea of the safety hooks.

    Did it say anything in the instructions about not recommended for progressives?

    The hooks on those look thicker than on mine which, I would have thought, would be an issue where the coils get closer together

    It says in the advert that they're not recommended for progressive rate springs.

    You're right it does (hadn't scrolled down!) but I still don't understand why not.
    and, if not, wtf are you supposed to use?

    ive used them for standard and lowered progressive springs, a spring clamp is a spring clam in my eyes lol ive never had any problems what so ever, didnt even know i wasnt supposed to use them for certain springs and i dont even use the safety hooks too much hassle lol

    Then i hope it comes off and hits you in the face, teach you a lesson. Hope you don't do as much bodging to safety essential parts of a car.

    A little harsh don't you think , Ive used cable ties in the past it's not really your place to tell people how they should do stuff
