Mk1 VTS Altenator belt

    Hey guys,

Need to replace the alternator belt as it's starting to fray pretty bad. I just want to know if there is a decent guide to taking the belt off and if the job is fairly easy? I'm probably a 5 out of 10 mechanically minded so I need to know if I can do it myself on the drive or would it be best to take it to a mechanic?

I have already searched but if n e one has a good "how to" guide to to swapping Altenator belts then please forward it on!

    This should help: http://www.frenchuk.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=419

Basically, undo the two 13mm bolts shown in that guide and tighten the tensioner bolt until you can remove the belt. Pop the new belt on, wind the tensioner bolt out until the belt is at the right tension, then tighten the two 13mm bolts.

The tension is a bit of a feel thing tbh. It should have around 4-5mm of play if you push on the longest edge, IIRC? Check the belt tension again after a few weeks.

There's a guide in the premium member how to discussion section. I'd link you to it, but I'm not a premium member! Iirc, it was written by Raunchz. Or however he bloody spells it.
