17" wheels - rubbing

  1. #1
    Hi

Right, I bought some 17" alloys from a guy who said they had come off a Saxo.

Two of the tyres has 45 profile tyres, and two had 40. The 45's didn't fit on the back because of the pipe from the fuel filler cap. The 40's wouldn't fit on the rear either as the tyre was rubbing on the arm holding the hub.

I've taken an angle grinder to the front to accommodate the 45's (but more work is needed as it's still rubbing! ). I've bought spacers to fit the rear wheels (10mm), I just need to get some extended bolts to fit them.

I'm starting to doubt they ever came from a Saxo though, and to drive 150 miles to take them back again is out of the question...! Has anyone ever fitted this size on a Saxo Furio before? Is there anything major I should be taking note of? Thanks in advance

tbh 17's on a saxo are way to big! you need to sell um and gets some 15's the 17's
probably would fit but thats alot of work for nothing

On the front, they do look amazing... will get some pictures up

I think it's worth the effort in my opinion, as it's different!

But it is possible though? With only modifications to the arch?

It's possible. It's a lot of work. It's not worth it (in my opinion) & It doesn't look "amazing" (in my opinion)

Haha it matches the rest of my car, trust me

    Thank you for the help!

    Ok.

I'm not that clued up on trying to fit that size alloy. But AFAIK, you will need 40 profile tyres, kiss goodbye to your arch liners, roll the lip on the rear arch & grind the arches to buggery.

I've just come across this thread which is basically what I'm aiming for.

Of course I don't have the body kit as of yet or modified suspension....

I'm just slightly worried that I'll have to modify more a lot sooner than planned to accommodate these wheels... And there also isn't really any going back as I only have 2 steel oem wheels remaining (left the other 2 with the seller )

We'll see how it goes tomorrow

What I can say is, the drum brake rear beam (as fitted to the furio) is slightly wider to the disk brake beam. So the arches will be naturally narrower.

the drum brake beam is narrower than the disk beam

Im pretty sure you would need 35s theoretically, as 16s use 40 profile

My mate is using 17s on his saxo vtr I think he is using 10mm spacers, I would think you will need 15mm spacers on the back as I'm using 5mm spacers on the back of my 1.1 saxo to accommodate vts alloys

35 tyres will be expensive, but small, even stretched tyres will be your best bet.

    What width are the 17s?

    Ah yes, I remember now.

The flat arches are narrower cos the VT kit cuts away part of the rear quarter.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I can confirm that the wheels fit without issues.

I have 45 profiles on the front (wheel arch liner had to be removed, but who needs them anyway!), with slight rubbing with full lock to the left (more grinding needed), and 40 profiles on the rear with 10mm spacers. After grinding the arch down to the plastic trim (removing the lip), I just grabbed it and pulled it out slightly.

No scraping from the rear when going over bumps, and slight scraping when hard cornering.

    I can live with that

I can upload pictures of where I ground the metal away if it helps anyone?

    Again, Cheers guys

Wouldnt mind seeing some pics of the car with the wheels on mate, what type of wheels are they?

They're a set of Mak alloys. They're not anything special, but were better than the steels.

Especially when you get them for helping someone

Once it stops hailing I'll go take some pics

Just remember to keep your wheel arches clean or rot will set in,thats what the liners are there for.
