Changed Gearbox Mount - Can't select 1st or 2nd gear

  1. #1
Just put a new gearbox mount and 4-1 manifold on my car, can't seem to select 1st or 2nd now, the gearstick wont move to the left?

can still get 3rd, 4th and 5 just won't go to the left.

Did hear a slight clicking as i jacked the car down to the ground, but assumed the mount was settling, popped linkage do you think?

A mate has said i might need to asjust the sideways play on the gearstick?

Gonna go check the whole linkage system now but some advice would be appreciated.

linkage bashing on the exhaust? i had to hang off my manifold to bend it clear

I'm wondering this to be honest, did you fit a raceland 4-1?

I was using Piper but dented it + it doesnt have good lambda ports.

i already had a janspeed 4-1 fitted, only had the trouble when i went to fit my saxsport due to the flange being larger. the manifold had been knocked by the previous owner which must have bent it out of line

You were right exhaust is the culprit.

Think it may be because ive fitted the mount wrong though,

I allowed the fork to hang down then tightened it.

Am I right in thinking the fork should be pushed up as far as it will go by jacking the box, THEN tightening the bolt on the back bush?

Tried jacking the box as high as it would go then tightening the mount, was able to select 1st but still no second and I lost 4th which it had before.

Lowering the box back down and lost 1st again anyway couldn't go over to the left at all.

Seems like the gear arm is hitting the centre pipe no matter what, so exhaust needs moving which is gonna be hard, or something on the linkages has bent/broken while the mount has been hanging out for the past few months

I think the flange on the raceland might be a little too large for comfort, it doesnt sit as close to the end of the pipe like with most manifolds.

get the grinder out then and make it smaller.

The mount is on the wrong way round.

I wondered this too, how sure would you be?

Do you mean the larger one which bolts to the box in a metal bracket?

The fork could go on either way round right? This was removed too and a Baker BM group a bush pushed into it.

The fork mount underneath the car, take it off and flip it the other way round. Im 100% sure this is the problem, i know because i put it on the wrong way round myself.

Do you mean unbolt the bracket holding the massive lower gearbox mount in from the gearbox, turn that the other way around and bolt it back on the box?

Because when you say fork mount i picture the small bush at the very back on the chassis, but im guessing you never removed this?

Also, when you did this, did you lose 1st and 2nd gear like me?

Thanks Saaamon, you've been helpful so far.

Turned out the exhaust need loosening at the head and moving down slightly, the downpipe on the raceland could do with sitting a little lower.
