New car - First problem.

Hey guys picked up the furio earlier.
Put a new battery on it a week ago, didn't drive it since today and when we got there we had to get the jumper leads out to get it going drove it from my mates to mine (about 5 miles) now it won't start wih out jumpers.
Could this be a defective battery (which is 3 months old) or something else?

Jump start the car and check the voltage across the battery once the engine is running without the aid of the other car. Should be a nice 14+ volts (mine is 14.7 v) Anything lower than that and you're looking at a new alternator, anything higher than that you're looking at a new alternator and new battery - if it's okay then you could be looking at a knackered battery.

Try to get the battery charged up as quickly as possible if it's flat, car batteries don't last long if they don't have much potential across them.

Check battery with a multimeter once running. Otherwise its possibly the alternator or a failed tensioner on the auxillary belt or knackered belt.

Putting the battery on a tester at work, let you know what I find!

    Battery is fine.
It was off my 1600 corsa b, it would be about the same battery on the furio as that wouldn't it?

    Time to check the alternator...
  12. #12
    And I'd do this how?
Without putting a new one on.
Don't wanna buy one and it not fix anything!!

    check battery voltage with multimeter
    start the car up
put a multimeter on the terminals of battery. your looking for around 13.5 volts iirc on tick over.

get someone to rev it up to 2000 rpm and that should increase.

if it doesn't or you only have battery voltage then the alt is fubar

    Battery's start gassing above 14.4v..

Turned out to be dodgy terminal on the battery!! And a flattish battery didn't help!!

    good alternator checks on here.
