Is my wheel cylinder faulty?

    Hi guys,

Bought a Pagid wheel cylinder off euro car parts. Installed it and was bleeding the brakes (had just pumped them twice) when the rubber end 'popped' and leaked hydraulic fluid around my drum.

Is this a faulty unit or have a missed some crucial step? Brand spanking new unit. Cheers,

    Ben

I imagine they'll replace that. Did you click the shoes out as far as they would go before bleeding? I imagine you havn't adjusted them properly meaning the piston has had to use much more travel than it should do.

I adjusted them so that I could just fit the drum over. Aaaah but I didnt have the drum on when I was bleeding them - could that have been it?

    oh yes

Oh no. Will the cylinder be completely bust? (its an old style one - the unit cant be opened)

you may get away with pushing the pistons back in but don't try bleeding the brakes with the drum off again

Cheers, should've given that some thought!
