burning rubber

hey guys, there is a strong smell of burning rubber coming from the rear driver side wheel? its not from the tyre, seems like the brake pads, the disk is also really hot its making the alloy wheel feel warm. i had my brake pads changed about 3 weeks ago, any ideas? thanks

you mean like ive hit the brakes and the pads have stayed compressed on to the disks if that makes sense?

Yeah. Jack it up and try and turn the wheel. You won't be able to probably. So take the wheel of and get a mate to push the foot brake on and off and see if the caliper is working as it should. You should see anything obviously wrong even if you take the other side off to compare.

ok thanks so if its compressed onto the disk how would i go about fixing it?

Not entirely sure. Depends whats fooked. I've heard of people spraying WD40 in the rubber seals and working it back and forth. But I'd make sure I knew what it was and replace if necessary.

iv'e had a quick look, waiting for my mate to get here to press the brake peddle, but looks like the pads are jammed on the disk, i was able to remove one of the big bolts out of the caliper by hand so the garage haven't tightend it properly could this be a reason for it?

Was the rear jacked up on axel stands with the hanbrake off? easy way to tell if your calipers are seized... if they're stiff whrn its off theres your problem.

i hav'nt got axel stands, just a trolley jack. I took the big bolts out of caliper, tried to take it off but you can see the pads are stuck to the disk, ill upload some photos.

Yeah ok. Can you move the caliper at all. Make sure the hadbrake is off and check to see that the cable joining the lever is loose at the back. Try prying it to loosen it take the pads put and really see what's going on. If you get the pads out try and free up the caliper and try and do a temp fix of makin it loose until you can replace it
