Important! : Radiator won't bleed!!

  1. #1
I changed my coolant on monday and bled the thermostat and the inlet one, but my radiator one won't bleed, iv turned the lug about a million times, when the engines on/off, with and without heaters on. it just won't bleed, is it threaded, as in if i keep turning it will it eventually bleed, or what, really annoying as my car keeps drinking coolant because of it

What do you mean the bolt wont bleed, you mean it just wont unscrew?

If it wont undo, it wont be because of this you are using coolant.

had to pull it out, i just kept turning it

i went out and coolant hadn't moved so i think it was this

keeps going down, i bled the radiator yesterday and it helped a good bit, but its going down when the car is off, not by like a full tank but i deliberatley filled it to the top to see if it would go down and it did. so im assuming its leaking?

    *sigh

When i changed mine, mine kept going down then it sat level.

Btw did you put the heaters on full chat hot whilst you bled the system?

yeh heaters were on when bleeding and are fine

i put a paper under my rad tonight although its pissing rain lol, tbh i kind of hope it is the rad as its utter shite, theres a water stain on it and its rusty at the bottom and the fins are that rotted that i can see the pipes at the edge!

On tuesday before i found out how to bleed the rad the coolant was at the bottom of the expansion tank, it is still going down but not as much so i'll give it a few more days without topping it up and if it ends up near the bottom ill get a new rad.

How long did it take before your's sat level?

    Not long really.

I assume you flushed out the old shit? if you didnt have a leak before, how come you think you do now? sure the pipes on correctly and tight? and the bleed points. Need to check otherwise you will just cook the engine..

    Important rly.

yeh flushed out all the shit

and although the temp guages aren't always accurate, its never went over the halfway mark since iv'e owned it, although on tuesday i never tightened the coolant temp sensor up tightly and coolant was coming out there which would probably explain why there was no coolant.

i only took off the pipe from the bottom or the rad and the thermostat housing and flushed them both with a hose, and put some water in the thermo housing and it cam out the bottom hose. then put them on tightly.

And could flushing out all the old shit suddenly bring out a leak? As i genuinely can't think of what else it can be, if it was the matrix then the heaters wouldn't work and the fact that it looses coolant when the engine is off is annoying.

how would you know that your heater matrix has gone, apart from the wet floor, my floor has always been wet even before i replaced my coolant due to a hole lol. would the heaters be shit or what?

are you bleeding it correctly? thats the first question...

VTS radiators vary on water level, does the heater get hot? when oil and water temp is up where does it sit? is it releasing water under heavy use? is the top hose to and from the radiator hot when warmed up?

the heater matrix will leak when it fails, if its pumping out hot air its fine
