Help Mot Emissions fail!!!!!!!!!

  1. #1
Hi Guys right i'm running out of idea's on how to get car through emissions past last year no problem with same exhaust system but borrowed a sports cat last year don't know whether i need one again to get it through. Saxo Vtr it is 2003

Car has a Piper 4-1 stainless steel mani and full system. But put a cat in the downpipe vts one a few months old?? could not been the piper mani as it past last year. Tried my vts standard exhaust system on still not pass, but have a tin can 4inch thing that came with car but passed on my daily s. one of lambda is in a lambda sleeve and other in mani, can't be a standard mani need as has a cat and passed last year any ideas???? when i took the old spark plugs out plugs 1 2 and 4 had oil on them and lambda sensor in mani was pitch black!!

So things fueling changed for mot

Two new ntk/ngk lambda sensors £215

    Fuel filter

    Spark plugs ngk iridiums

injectors ultrasonically cleaned new o ring's/filters etc

    fresh oil/oil filter

    had two new handbrake cables

    two new wishbones

    two new droplinks

    two new track rod ends

chucked 3 bottles of fuel cleaner stuff in

    took into mot station hot!

    Any ideas??

Return system back to standerd and just get second hand lambda's. If they are the same as furio ones i got both fully working order.

    sports cat the problem maybe?

Andrew page sell cats for around 30 brand new so you could bob one of those on they don't last long but if you fit it for the test then remove you can use it year after year.

Are you sure you are running the correct spark plugs for your car?I ask as someone else had the exact same problem a while back & it was down to the wrong plugs.I did hear as well that a faulty coil pack can make a car run rich hence the blackened lambda sensor.

Yeah my coil pack is currently faulty and ive just serviced it and had the black spark plugs.

    It does run rich.

Id suggest getting the multimeter out and checking the coil pack using this...

I could try a new coilpack, there the correct plugs checked to code bought from opie oils.

Black lambda sensor in the manifold! read the thread i don't have a multimeter how about just buying a new coilpack, all the coils in the coilpack are fine.

Was reading 0.47 with the blue plug lambda sensor in the mani thats what mot tester said to do but was running crap as the green sensor lambda needs to be in the mani and the blue lambda in the lambda sleeve. Took it it to another mot tester for a second opinion fly'd through emissions, turns out first mot place had an old emissions tester so took it to the second opinion one who had a 12 month old emissions tester flew through! jst goes to show sometimes people need to check there equipment!!! never going to first mot place again absouletly nonsense! told me to put a blue sensor in the mani then makes mums car run like crap! got to be green plug in mani and blue plug in sleeve. Yes has a newish cat only a few months old.

mine failed on emmissions so the tester just got it stinking hot and then it passed

Only just got your PM Wayne. This all sorted now?

For the record, the post CAT (blue) lambda doesn't alter how the engine runs in any way - it's only there to flag up a fault code poor CAT efficency.

If another car passed an MOT recently with that CAT, then the CAT is probably fine. If the lambda was totally black, the car is obviously overfueling for some reason. The only thing I can think of is possibly a dodgy coolant temp sensor causing it to throw more fuel in?

Yes all sorted now Liam mums car was running crap with the blue lambda in the manifold so swapped them as were before as first mot'er was talkin aload of crap! had to swap them round even though they were right to start with in his garage.

even the second opinion one said they need to the way they were before, yeah the CAT is fine noting wrong with it just a dodgy emissions tester the first place we took it to looked ancient! yes you could be right there Liam green one you mean i'll get her a new one, just unplug/unscrew with spanner and put new one in, lambda i took out of mani was pitch totally black.
