fire damage to 1.1 desire saxo need help

hello all as you can see im new to this so hello to all.
i could do with some help.......
i have recently had a fire in the engine bay of my saxo the fire started in the loom it was the cable to the altenator where it shorted.
i have replaced all the burnt cables and have my radio and leccie windows but the car wont start we think that it has damaged the ECU but im in 2 minds to repair it because its a 51 plate and i dont think its worth the money and due to the fire i dont want to drive it again so was going to repair and sell on.
i decided to make a claim through my insurance company but they wont cover the claim because they said they will only cover the damage caused by the fire not what started it.... but today i received the letter to say my claim was turned down due to an electrical fault they wont help me. they have really left me up the creek without a paddle because i have no car and no money to get another one so i really wanted to try to repair it and sell it on.
can anyone help in any way maybe some ideas on what to do because to my knowledge all ECU`s are coded to each individual car.

Any help would be greatly recieved.
    many thanks all
    suzie

getting another ecu wont cost to much. get an unlocked one for about 50quidish.will work. unless something else was damaged. what wires have you replaced, and have you replaced the immobiliser or any components? is the starter motor working do you know?

Your best route would be to buy an unlocked ecu,IE one that has been decoded.Send a pm to someone on here like either ryanmt or a user called cam.

i didnt know you can buy decoded ones. i have replaced all the wires in the loom because the fire just spread through them. the fire started in the wire from altenator. i have only replaced wires nothing else... im female so not fully into engines lol

I'd try another battery first and replace the earth leads, check fuses in the engine bay and check relays.

Does the engine turn over when you turn the key?

Do you know if its SPI or MPI?

Best thing to do is check for a spark. If there's a sprk then it should start. If not then I'd torch it and claim that way

    there is no spark...
hmmmmm knowing my luck the bloody things wudnt burn lol
    thanks anyway hun
