Car failed its MOT today for excessive play on rear trailing arm. I've now been to pick up a good condition axle with a warranty to replace it. It isn't a recon, so I was just wondering if there's anything I can do when I give it a clean up (i.e. grease) to prolong its working life?

#2Not really, it's a risk you take when going 2nd hand. It doesn't have grease points, everything is all sealed. So that's why they cost so much for a recon one.

#3Ok, I'll see how it goes in that case. It's got a years warranty on it and only cost just over £100 so can't complain

#4I need a new one, been looking for a while now, i dont want to be paying through the roof for a recon one when i'll be replacing the car in 4-5 months. i've seen a few axles taken off the cars but i dont really know what im looking for, i've been trying to find a donor vehicle so i can see how it sits but im really struggling to find a breaker in the area.

#5I would rather pay £360 for a recon axle than waste my time removing and refitting second hand axles that are either fucked or dont last 2 weeks. + labour costs if you pay someone else to do.

#6yeah but im going to get like £600 for the car when it comes to selling, even witha recon axle nobody it going to want to pay £1000+ for a 1.1 52 plate. i'll not get the money back for putting it in.

#7May aswell sell it with a fucked axle then rather than buying another, fitting it for it to be fucked after a week or fucked as soon as you put it on. Either way they buyer would be buying a car with a fucked axle!

#8fair doo's, but anyone with half a brain buying a saxo will look for a camber on the back, if i can somehow get one prior the selling which will give it abit of a less looking camber is gonna be a win for me then they can worry about buying another one later on. With standards on i dont think it would be a problem for anyone but with Vtr alloys on with weight in is not goood at allll!
