Could you get an 03 VTS "without" ABS

  1. #1
Simple really, was it possible to buy a Saxo VTS in 2003 and specify no ABS?

I've thought a few times that I've heard a cheeky tyre scrape as if it was locking a wheel, so yesterday I took the opportunity to test them out up at my dads farm place, lots of dusty farm tracks, so ideal.

Results : I can easily lock the front wheels with no pedal shuddering at all.

I also have no lights showing on the dash anywhere to indicate an ABS failure?

do you have an ABS pump?

    do you have ABS sensors?

    do you have a penis?

    maybe

    I haven't looked

    Probably not?

it's raining! What does the ABS pump look like? Does it have a V8 on it?

    FML.

I have one of these here saxo ABS pumps

So that basically means my ABS is goosed then? How well does it work standard? Is it actually any good or is the effect negligible? If it's working it's nothing like the assistance I used to get on my previous cars?

    awesome!

sounds like your bulb is gone if the light isn't coming on like, bit of skullduggery methinks!

you've got no idea how well it works, your's never has lol!

What's the ABS light look like, does it just say ABS or something? I'll go check!

    it makes a decent difference.

although, with decent tyres and standard vts brakes I can't get abs to kick in under the heaviest braking in the dry.

this could be either because standard brakes are shit (they are) or mine are even shitter with shittier pads and disks (probably true too).

But if it locked up, without pedal feedback. something. somewhere. isn't right.

Sensors are known to fail, so try replacing them first? or get one new one and try it in all 4 corners to see if it solves it.

as mentioned as well though, someone seems to have tampered with your bullllllb

    gangster.

So if I go and lash the keys in the ignition, should this mythical ABS light should come on!

Your clocks look different to mine Muzzzzzz

The font I think. Maybe. Or I'm shit.

    2 mins I'll go take a peek.

    they're not my clocks!

if the abs is fine the light will come on and go off, if it's broken it'll stay on, if the bulb has been taken out it'll not light up due to it not being there, if the bulb has been taken out and it lights up then your car is a magical wagon

Ahhh, they're probs 106 GTi clocks or something then.

Right so errr, mystery deepens. Turns out that actually not a lot of my dash lights come on when I turn the ignition on lol, pics uploading.

At the very least, the (!) for the handbrake should come on shouldn't it, 'coz that's not showing either?

    FML. French ftw.

Right then, so when I turn the key to ignition 1, I get this:

Then when I turn to ignition 2, I get this, as well as the immobiliser light flashing on and off quickly:

What's missing that should be lit lol? The one that's cut off at the far left is the passenger airbag light, that goes off after about 8 seconds or something.
  15. #15
as far as I know your abs one should come on and go off

most of the time all of mine come on and stay on
  16. #16
Missing ABS and airbag light by the looks of it. Both are now MOT fails if the vehicle has them but they don't light up IIRC.
  17. #17
Previous owner clearly taped the ABS light up for MOT..

It doesn't look like it's been taped lol.

I reckon the bulbs are out / removed then. What should the airbag one look like, is that seperate to the passenger airbag light that comes on on the far left?

Shouldn't the handbrake light be lit as the handbrake was applied?
  19. #19
the handbrake one certainly should, or be on all the time like mine!

simple solution go whip your clocks out and have a look lol

Don't come round here talking sense man!

Good point well made, I might do this tonight! How hard can it be? Do I "need" to remove the steering wheel / airbag or can I wrestle it out without bothering?

    I don't like airbags.

    That's how I read it!
  23. #23
you need to remove the airbag to remove the steering wheel
  24. #24
Give Aaran a go, he'll sharp get your airbag out of the way!
  25. #25
You can get the clocks out without taking the steering wheel off. I've done it before. But it's a bastard.
