hi all - I recently got a second hand X Reg Saxo 1.4i auto, and it has been fine for the 600 miles I've done since getting it. However, this week it has suddenly become a noisy car. It is a loud roar that first comes when I start the engine, then is louder when I use the accelerator. It quietens down over 2 and a half revs... can anyone help?

#2Are you sure its not just a hole in the exhaust?

#3I'll take a look! I last looked at the exhaust when I bought it and no signs of any holes/rust etc. So just scouting out for ideas on what it could be. The problem with knowing not a lot about cars is the fear of taking it to the garage for something simple!

#4well - indeed it was the exhaust as when I was driving about yesterday, the exhaust came off and was scraping along the floor. The downpipe has got rusty. RAC man did a quick fix and taking it into the garage today to sort out. Wonder how much a new downpipe will cost me?!!

#6exhausts rust inside out so its not really noticable from the outside untill its just about fcked. or unless theres a big hole already ahah.
Mine did the same, got a local garage to weld it up, bodge job. But its lasted since last july! and still seems strong. -
#7good idea - might try uniparts although I'm useless at diy jobs so might get someone else to take a look! Just went to kwik *hit, they quoted me £318 for a new cat. Yuck. Showed me where it was blowing and rusted... bodge job RAC man has done is keeping me on, but crikey it's loud!
