jumping out of 5th gear

   This morning on the way to worki was on the motorway doing about 80 and when I lifted off it jumped out of 5th. If I hold it in 5th or don't lift off it stays in gear. I was going to replace top gearbox mount and linkages before trying a new box. Any ideas helpfull

   Start with linkages, they are easy to change and uprated ones can be bought for £30 2nd hand.

   i changed the linkages and gearbox top mount, both didnt help in the slightest, iv got a powerflex lower mount and recently had new engine mount, so looks like it is the box, when i drive it it drives fine, apart from jumping out of 5th looks like its a new box

   I had this recently on a golf, after stripping the box it it was the 5th gear synchro that was shot

   Maybe the car was telling you doing 80 is bad
