squeeking/grinding noise !! VTR?

  1. #1
I will be travelling along in a 30 zone so my foot is on and off the accelerator and even when I depress the clutch the car kicks out a squeaking / squealing sound. It makes the sound when I first press the accelerator or when I come off it… but if I put my foot down the noise disappears. Cant for the life of me find out what it is.
It must be pretty common cos this is the second vtr I have owned which has made this sound.

Any help would be great cheers

Probably the exhaust joint springs squeaking when load is on/off the engine and it moves back and forth!

Does the engine feel like it moves a lot when changing gears and putting power on?

Yeah not a lot of movement but yeah do notice a shift in the engine.

    How do I solve that?

You can try changing the springs but usually its due to the mounts being sligthly worn! I changed to stiffer mounts to solve it on mine! Have a look in prickles thread, he changed to a powerflex lower mount which sorted this!

Also the downpipe/centre pipe resealed sorted it. metal, metal rubbing added to the squeak.

Cleaned up the springs, bolts with a dremel ands it gone.

    id try both.

the mounts very easy to change. 3 bolts in total.

Only difficult bit would be cutting/pressing out the old rubber mount from the lower one, the rest is just bolts. The other mounts require the engine and gearbox to be lowered down a touch and then unbolted but its only 30 mins work if that

    As said...

Support the back of the engine with a jack, undo three bolts that hold the mount on, cut the old rubber out the centre with a hacksaw, lube the metal ring up then put the new rubber in place, tread on it to push it in, repeat for the rubber the other side, then mount back in place, tighten the three bolts and remove jack!
