cocktail shaker on wheels

  1. #1
    Hi guys,
Bought my vtr about 3 months ago, know my way around a saxo as this is my third one. Anything between 55-70 mph and my steering wheel starts shaking really bad, if i grab it tight the vibrations seem to start affecting the steering column.

I went to f1 tyres and they said it was the top strut bearings, so changed them at work at the weekend but its still shaking. thought i would ask on here if anyone knew of any other causes besides wheel balancing and struts that would cause this. My next step is to take it back and get them balanced (costing a small fortune as they are solid wheels) but thought i would ask anyway.

    Thanks in advance

mines does this at about 80 but not violently, just enough to make you want to grip it tight

my mate has had this problem, it was because one of his wheels was buckled / bent /not straight , happened to him once he hit 90.

if you do take it to a garage though. Id take the "havent got a clue what it is" approach. If they do suggest wheel alignment, ask them if you can go for a spin with one of the mechanics before you pay incase its still happening. When you do go for a drive, if its still happening, get them to try plan B and try and make sure you only pay for what fixes it.

Get all 4 balanced and swap the fronts for the backs and take it from there...

All sound like sensible options, I will take it up the tyre place this weekend and get them done and swap them around aswell
