Just want a bit of quick advice. I'm having a Kent PT40 cam fitted tomorrow to my vtr and i don't know if i should get my vernier pulley too or if i should just ask them to use the standard pulley? i've had a custom map done today ready for the cam going in as the car is off the road until it's fitted anyway

#2You can't adjust the timing on the standard pulley, so it may be difficult to get it running "perfect". I just can't understand how someone has done a map on it though without having the car running? Sounds the wrong way round to me, sounds like they've just put a generic map for a "fast road" cam on standard timing marks.

#3i thought they run on standard settings?
they sent the files from my ecu off to a tuner (i don't knkw who he uses) with all the info & spec of the car and they've sent back the map with everything on it. -
#4You can't just dump a cam in on standard timing marks and expect it to be set up properly. Yes the PT40 isn't the wildest of cams for the 8v but to get the best out of it you need to advance/retard the ignition timing whilst it's on a rolling road ideally.
You mentioned in your first post that you already have a vernier pulley? If you already have one then it's a no brainer to get it fitted.
There's nothing wrong with how you've gone about it, but to achieve optimum results you should have the car mapped and the timing adjusted on a rolling road once the cam has been fitted. -
#5but would it still run 'ok' on standard timings until i could afford the time on a rolling road? mean reason i asked about the pulley is because it's a mechanic fitting the cam not a tuning place, so didn't know if they could set the timing up right with it until it's set up right by a tuner on a rolling road.

#6Doesn't matter, the mechanic will just the pulley in on standard timing marks.

#7get a mans cam something like a piper 285 or catcams 644/645

#8We usually find with the pt40 a retard of 5deg gives the best spread of power. As for your map sounds like you have been had over. Get it to wayne and get a proper map done

#9who is wayne?
found the timings for the cam in the book it came with then i'll get it adjusted on a rolling road. Just need it running atm to get me to the airport.
