i have 2 problems that have stumped me!

   my first problem is recently ive noticed a constant smell of petrol, like the mixture is running rich, but a few people have said to me that it sounds like its sucking in alot of air :/ does anyone have any ideas how to cure this?
   
   The second problem is my gears feel rather loose and i have to travel quite far on the stick to get it into gear (i.e my knuckles hit the dash in 1st).
   Any help to sort this would be much appreciated!

   isnt that on the exhaust? its a mk1 so i dont think its got one

   wheres the smell from you think?
   only ask as I thought same a while ago but was actually the fuel filter under car that was kaput - the little pool of pertrol on the drive also gave it away.... it really stank the car out

   to be honest i dont know :/ i would guess from the engine. i have no fuel leak, just oil leaks haha!. i was told it is running rich because the air filter was clogged so i cleaned it out and added a breathing filter (because mine had gone) but its made no difference

   All saxo`s have 1 sometimes 2 lambda sensors,in your case 1 sensor on the downpipe mate.

   so if the sensor has gone then it will be using a richer mixture? are they easy to change?. same as the tempreture sensor n that?

   altho i do have quad, 4 motorbike race-can exhausts... the CAT is still there but could that effect it at all?

    you can test the lambda your looking for a range of between 0.3-0.7 volts can't remember which wire ( but it's useally the one that is coloured)
