Important! : Help? Broke a tappet

  1. #1
Ive recently rebuilt the head of my engine, it's a mk2 8v vtr... It starts(ish)
First time I don't think I got the tappets set correctly, and one snapped.
So I've replaced them all with a used set, and it started again after adjusting the tappets to the Haynes manual specifications.
    Another tappets then snapped!
So basically, I need to know if I'm able to take one of the tappets off the old spine and swap them over? If so, how do I go about doing it?
Any suggestions as to why it's running so bad also?
I've checked the timing, numerous times but I'll check it again in a mo to make sure it hasnt slipped at all.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm loosing my mind over this now!

Did you set it with the engine hot or cold?
  3. #3
It was cold mate, went by the Haynes manual

    Anyone?

I've managed to repair the tappet now, but any ideas on the engine running rough? It cuts out straight away, I've replaced the cam (Kent) all the stem seals and had the head ported a bit... I'm seriously pulling my hair out here

Are you setting the valve clearances correctly??
