    Hi,

I got my head gasket done maybe 7-8 months ago and I think it's gone again as there's oil in my water and I'm losing coolant.

What I'm thinking is which would be more cost productive. Just dropping a vtr lump in my Furio 1.4's place or just getting the head skimmed and gasket done again?

Which would be cheaper as I've seen some engines for around £100 but I would need the ecu and everything with it and how much would that cost at a garage? I got my head gasket done on the cheap before, probably hence why its gone, hence why I'd rather pay a bit more and get a garage to do it. I know the guys well there anyway.

People's opinions? What would I do with the old Furio engine and what if the vtr lump had a dodgy gasket aswell? -_-

    Cheers

I had a suspicion that would be the answer. But is it simply just buying an engine and dropping it in or will it cost me a fortune in gear boxes or ecu's on top?

Dont bother putting vtr in just 16v it do much better you can pick an engine and everything you need up for about 300 and then just get someone off here to dropp it in for you

So about £450 all in..? Would it add much value to the car for resale or not?

I'll have a search of the forum and see what's required for a full 16v conversion

a vtr engine can be had for £50-100 with ecu and loom they are not expensive and use your original box/shafts

a vts engine/box/ecu/loom will be about £300, then add about £100 for new shafts (if fitting the s box)

no one knows what will be more cost effective, if you get your head gasket done properly then it will work out cheaper in the long run, you could buy a vtr engien and fitted for less but it might go bang in the next 5 miles you just dont know

unless your going to fit the engine yourself then jsut get the head gasket done properly unelss youve got money to pay for someone else to do an engine conversion, me and my hosuemate would charge about £250 labour to do a 16v conversion

Nice one jeff, exactly the response I was looking for. Think I'll just get the head gasket done properly in that case. Ghey I know but I'd rather I know the engine be sound in it rather than putting other engines into my car

Depends how competent you are, it's a big job as far as I am aware. Getting it wrong wouldn't be a good idea
