Hit a speed bump

  1. #1
Hit a speed bump yesterday which I didn't see at around 30mph
All was well until about an hour later it started making a squeaking kinda sound , gets louder the quicker I go! Could happen every few seconds or it'll be fine for a minute or so then it does it again!
I can't see any visible damage , so anyone got any ideas what it would be?
    Cheers!

Sounds like a wheel bearing, there about £20-£25 to buy but you need a garage to press them in

Why not just strip down the strut yourself then just pay a garage to press the new bearing in, it will be cheaper than paying them a couple of hours labour aswell

If it goes up in pitch the faster you go, Id say its your drive shaft.

I had a loud squeal that got worse the more i drove. Fucking annoyed the balls off me until i replaced both drive shafts and it went.

Car is now making a horrible and loud kinda grinding sound when slowing down to a rest is that deffo the bearing or will it be the drive shaft?

Took it to get a wheel bearing change yesterday , but yesterday it had stopped making that noise all day! And when I got there the car was jacked up and there was no play or anything in the wheel and the driveshaft looked fine, so the week bearing wasn't changed.
But It started doing it again this morning, help?!

I would seriously look at the shaft.. Mine was fine when it did it no play or nothing. It just must have gone dry or something cause it made such a god awful whistle.

Yea the bearing would be easy to spot as it makes a grinding sound when the wheels is spun whilst off the ground. The drive shaft is obvious as if you remove the boot grease will be everywhere, very messy

jack the car up so both front wheels are off the ground, take the suspect sides wheel off, get someone to lightly drive the wheels whilst you listen around the hub area for a whistle...

TBH i did this and couldnt pin point the whistle. If you have this same situation, id go for a shaft. I replaced both of mine for like 95 quid and the problem never returned.
