Revs take ages to drop

As above, when i rev the car, the revs take agesssss to drop, when they should be alot quicker.

Also when i first start the car and drive it off, then stop at the top of the road, the revs will sometimes stick at around 1800, then slowly drop.

If i put the car in neutral and take my foot off the clutch when the revs are sticking, the revs drop back to idling.

Any ideas what this could be.. somebody mentioned it could be an air leak in my induction? Would like to get it sorted as its really bugging me.

    Cheers.

it could be idle control valve or tps or a sticking throttle cable

Dont think its idle control valve, deffinately not a sticky cable. Whats a tps?

A tps is a throttle position sensor mate, have you checked the throttle body isn't full of dirt and grime and getting stuck?

Was doing it on a friends gti, just give all throttle body a clean as said and it should sort it out, i just removed it and gave it all a clean out with brake cleaner and a tooth brush for any thick deposits

Mine does it every time i take the battery off, its sounds like idle controll vavle, normaly sorts itself out after a bit of check your breather pipes for leaks ( the long one from the idle controll vavle to the air box
