noisy engine

   ok so i need some help here when ive been on a long journey and the engine is nice and warm for some reason i get a really loud tapping/knocking noise from the engine bay to start with i found out the cat and back box were dead and replaced them but i still have this noise....
   im thinking it could be tappets any ideas??
   really need to sort it out

   Normally the tappets will be louder from cold, then as the engine warms up everything expands and the clearences become smaller and the tapping will quieten down, although if your tappets are in desperate need of adjustment then they may be noisey when the engine is hot aswell.

   thats what i thought but it runs nice and quiet when the engines cold i just dont know where else to find a problem

   Sounds like your injectors are ticking. Does it sound like it's coming through the driver's side wing?

   yeah it does i had a quick look tonight when i got home from work as it was doing it and it was definitely around the area by the rocker cover

   i think you can tighting them up but you need to check what torque setting is needed so u dont over do it hope this helps

   don't think you can do much with noisy injectors other than replace them.. might be wrong though

   I thought the injectors were a push fit design & not a screw in design?

    yeah they are, push them in and then theres the metal pins that hold them in place. no screws for injectors at all.

    defo could be tappets little bit of noise when cold now can the middle pipe on a 1.1 cause noise?
