Manifold Question

    Hi,

    I'm having some troubles with my vtr engine at the moment, just can’t seem to get it running right since it’s been put back together.
    Worst case, I’ll end up putting a new engine in there, so if I do, I’ll most likely go for the jp4.
    Swapping the engines over shouldn’t be too much of an issue, but one of the main deciding factors is the exhaust manifold.
    Will my current 4-1 manifold still fit on the jp4 head? The reason I ask, is that I’ve had a sports cat welded on, and the rest of the pipe work is custom made and there’s no way for me to split it and replace just the manifold. The whole exhaust cost me over 1k, so I’m not willing to replace this.

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    No an 8v manifold wont fit the JP4 head. Best off getting a 16v manifold and cutting off the sports cat and welding it to the new manifold

    I'll have to look for a different solution i think, as said i really couldnt split that exhaust up. Guessing its the same situation for the j4 engine then...
    I tihnk i'll just rip the head of the vtr again this weekend and try and work out where its going wrong. driving me nuts lol.

    Why not just fit a good used head?

    Well ive just rebuilt my current head, So i'll see if i can get this working well first... if not, i'll have to do something, possibly a new head, or just a working engine lol. im just not sure where it could have gone wrong though, if im honest.

    Quick thing, you said you had problems with tappets before didnt you?
    Are you putting the split colletts on the valve steams back in the right way up? I fell foul to this once and it all fits back together but you'll never get the valve clearances correct and it will cause damage if you run the engine.

    Im pretty sure i am, with the slightly bigger end at the bottom so its tapered up?
    If that makes any sence...

    Does the top of the stem sit just about flush with the cap, maybe a touch raised? In all honesty I cant remember now which way round they go in now as its been a while since I did it but I know I had to flip mine around. When in wrong there was about 2/3 mm of stem poking out up above the valve cap. Hopefully someone can confirm the way round they sit

    I could always go and get a picture of them after work?
    It would explain why im getting through tappets like i get through biscuts though!
    Thanks for that suggestion though, Its deffinatly something i'll look into

    I found that valve clearances were so badly out that that the valves would smack the pistons. I'll be able to identify from photos easily as I remember what they looked like, its worth a look

    I've actually found a picture from before i took it appart, Sir... Your a legend!
    it never even crossed my mind, but its deffinatly those which are on the wrong way.
    Hopefully i havent caused too much damage internally though :/

    hopefully you wont have bent anything, so fit them the right way round and give it a go!

    Hopefully not, but im not too sure if i'll be able to get new valves from a motor factors? Is it something they would normally sell?

    Usually be citroen/pug mate
