Thrust Bearing/Clutch

  1. #1
Car has recently started to play up.. alot.

Clutch pedal seems increasingly hard to push down, and wont all the way. A constant whining noise is also produced whenever the car is in gear. Done a bit of research and someone suggested 'thrust bearing' however i am fearing the worst of a whole new clutch.

Just wanted to see if anyone was able to shed some light on this problem i.e. cost and difficulty, or if i have completely got it wrong.

    Cheers

box off job so all the cost of doing that (unless you can do it yourself). New valeo release bearing is about £25.
I'd factor in new gearbox oil too and a clutch change if its not recent as there no point in doing the job twice.

    Hi mate,

The clutch thrust bearing on Saxos is very temperamental.

Mine went at about 50K on my totally clean and serviced MK2 VTR.

I did even know it was the bearing making the noise, it sounded like the aux driving belt going away, used to sound like a right nob at drive throughs n stuff

I did a clutch change, for the sake of it at about 55k, the original valeo clutch that came out of it looked barely used but the bearing was shagged, didn't know until I started it however

Fitted my new genuine valeo clutch & bearing and when I started the car and heard no noise I realised what the noise was!

Long story short, the bearing went before the clutch was even half way through its life lol

More than likely buddy, does it sound a bit like a squeaky rubber belt rotating or something?
